John
Swift QC (MA)
The Chairman of the Judges of the National Rail Awards remains John
Swift QC. John was the UK’s first Rail Regulator, appointed
under the Railways Act 1993, and served from 1993 to 1998. John
is in full time practice at the Bar, at Monckton Chambers, where
he was Head of Chambers from 1999-2001, specialising in competition
law and the regulation of utilities, including legal issues arising
in the privatised and restructured railway. John is a Fellow of
the Institute of Logistics and Transport and maintains a keen interest
in the development of the railways. “The National Rail Awards
is now in its ninth year” he says. “It occupies a special
position as the industry’s best known and best supported awards
scheme and promotes best practice within the railway. I encourage
all those firms and individuals within the railway industry to continue
to support the scheme with enthusiasm and pride in your achievements.”

Lyons CBE
A logistics and policy specialist and retired Major General, former
Director General of The Railway Forum. Current appointments include
the British Standards Institute’s Standards Policy and Strategy
Committee. OPC winner NRA2006.

Ian has been with British Transport Police for the last seven years,
after 30 plus years in the Metropolitan Police. He has lead the
modernisation of BTP to ensure it is focussed on the key issues
for the industry and the travelling public.

Chairman of the Railway Engineer‘s Forum and a past chairman
Railway Division, IMechE. Cliff is a retired senior railway professional,
previously Managing Director Thameslink and AEA Technology Rail.

Alan is retired as the Deputy Chief Inspecting Officer of Railways
at Her Majesty's Railway Inspectorate. He has vast experience in
the rail safety and accident investigation business and is widely
respected throughout the operating railway.

John is now a trustee of The Campaign for Better Transport and a
director of First GB Railfreight. Chairman of National Railway Heritage
Awards Committee, John is a railway manager of enormous experience.
Richard Wallace MA FCIT
Richard has spent more than 30 years in the UK rail industry. Now
Standards and European Affairs Manager for ATOC, formerly with London
Underground Limited and the Office of the Rail Regulator, he was
part of the team which initiated TfL’s new London Rail organisation.
Milly
Ayliffe
A consultant lawyer to Norton Rose, specialising entirely in rail
financing transactions. Milly has been involved with the railway
industry since before the privatisation of British Rail, when she
acted on behalf of the UK Government in setting up the ROSCOs.
